Dependence of zero viscosity of shear from chemical structure of polymer

Abstract

The procedure is proposed for quantitative analysis of the effect of the chemical structure of a polymer on a number of rheological characteristics of polymer melts: zero shear viscosity, storage and loss moduli, relaxation time, shear factor. Dependences of these characteristics on temperature, molecular weight, frequency of mechanical influence are taken into account. Polybutadiene, copolymers of polyethylene with polyalkyl methacrylates served as the objects of the study. The incorporation of branching into the polymer chain and increasing their length helps to reduce the viscosity, which is associated with a change in the glass transition temperature of the polymers. The relaxation time obeys the Arrhenius equation and increases with increasing molecular weight of the polymer.
